
The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation is inviting South African students to apply for their Fellowship Programme for the 2025 academic year. This program aims to cultivate entrepreneurship in Fellows and ensure that they create opportunities for themselves and their communities.
Fields of Study:
The fellowship (bursary) will be awarded for undergraduate degree studies within these fields, at selected institutions:
- Arts
- Commerce
- Science
- Engineering
- Humanities
- Law
- Health Science (excluding Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science)
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must not be older than 21 years old in 2024
- Must be currently in Matric in 2024
- Must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics or a minimum result of 80% for Mathematical Literacy in Grade 11 final results
- Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% for Grade 11 final results (excluding Life Orientation)
- Must intend on studying towards a degree qualification within one of the fields of study listed above in 2025
- Must intend on studying at one of the following partner universities: Nelson Mandela University, Rhodes University, Stellenbosch University, TSiBA Business School, University of Cape Town, University of the Free State, University of Johannesburg, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of Pretoria, University of the Western Cape, University of the Witwatersrand
- Must believe in the future of South Africa
- Must have strong entrepreneurial flair and passion
What the Fellowship Covers:
- Academic & Financial Support:
- Full funding for students from households with a combined annual income of R1 million and below (covers tuition fees, university accommodation, meals, book allowance, general monthly allowance, tutoring sessions, and counselling services).
- Needs-based funding for students from households with a combined annual income above R1 million.
- Entrepreneurial Support:
- Mentorship from an individually assigned foundation staff member and a business mentor.
- Access to the Foundation’s online entrepreneurial curriculum.
- Annual entrepreneurship conference, seminars, and workshops.
- Access to a community of like-minded individuals.
- Access to business incubation and venture funding via e squared, an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation sister entity.

- Interview: Successful applicants will be invited for an interview in July 2025.
- Selection Camp: Successful interview candidates will be invited to a selection camp in September 2025.
