- A Grade 1: R1 001 349 – R1 078 116 per annum
- And Grade 2: R1 142 553 – R1 247 202 per annum

Job Overview– Medical Officer
The Free State Department of Health invites qualified medical professionals to apply for the position of Medical Officer (Grade 1-3) at the Forensic Pathology Services based at Bethlehem and Botshabelo Mortuaries. This is a critical role in managing medico-legal death investigations and ensuring quality forensic services are rendered to the public.
Requirements– Medical Officer
- Matric Certificate
- MBChB Degree
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for 2025/2026
- Valid driver’s license
- Computer literacy
- Proof of experience endorsed by Human Resources
Grade-Specific Experience:
- Grade 1: No experience required after registration (SA-qualified); 1 year relevant experience for foreign-qualified (if community service not required).
- Grade 2: Minimum 5 years post-registration (SA-qualified); 6 years for foreign-qualified.
- Grade 3: Minimum 10 years post-registration (SA-qualified); 11 years for foreign-qualified.
Skills & Knowledge– Medical Officer
- Forensic pathology and public sector medico-legal investigation procedures
- Legislation related to medico-legal services
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Teamwork, planning, and organizational capabilities
- Postgraduate qualification in Forensic Pathology is an added advantage
Duties & Responsibilities– Medical Officer
- Conduct and manage forensic medico-legal autopsies
- Liaise with critical stakeholders and attend key forensic service meetings
- Contribute to quality assurance in autopsy procedures
- Develop and review standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Contribute to the formulation and implementation of operational plans
