The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness invites qualified candidates to apply for one of the high-impact medical officer posts currently available within the Forensic Pathology Service. This Registrar (Medical) opportunity, based at Tygerberg Hospital under Stellenbosch University, is ideal for professionals looking to specialize in forensic medicine in an academic and service-driven environment.
Minimum Requirements- Medical officer Posts
- Appropriate medical qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as an Independent Medical Practitioner
- Valid Code B/EB driver’s license
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet research)
- South African citizenship or permanent residency
- Commitment to academic development and service delivery
Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of forensic medical protocols and legal frameworks
- Teamwork, professionalism, and the ability to work under pressure
- Interest in teaching, research, and contributing to academic platforms
- Ability to travel to other forensic facilities as part of service support
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
Key Responsibilities- Medical officer Posts
- Conduct autopsies and forensic pathology investigations under consultant supervision
- Provide medico-legal case follow-ups and assist in documentation
- Participate in academic activities including teaching, research, and presenting cases
- Ensure service compliance with clinical governance and safety standards
- Collaborate with the broader forensic medicine team across facilities
