Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to meet defined performance targets by planning, organizing, and managing mining activities. You’ll be responsible for ensuring operational effectiveness, enforcing safety standards, and contributing to the training and development of your crew. The role includes duties such as acting as a relieving shift boss, conducting inspections, overseeing statutory compliance, and promoting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
As a Sasol Miner, your day-to-day duties will include:
- Managing crew to meet production targets.
- Overseeing safety, health, and environmental compliance in your section.
- Demonstrating strong leadership and acting as relieving shift boss when necessary.
- Conducting gas and ventilation tests, start/end shift inspections, and risk assessments.
- Ensuring correct use of PPE and tools by team members.
- Completing statutory reports and timekeeping via SAP inputs.
- Overseeing the availability of mining materials and controlling resources effectively.
- Coaching and mentoring operators, and promoting people development.
- Leading performance meetings and participating in OE (Operational Excellence) initiatives.
- Ensuring smooth transition of tasks between shifts and reporting to technical and support teams.
Minimum Requirements
- National Senior Certificate or Full N3 (with Maths and English/Business English).
- Valid Blasting Certificate for Fiery Mines.
- Valid Gas Testing Certificate (8 gasses).
- Competent A Certificate.
- Valid First Aid Certificate and Red Ticket (or ability to obtain one).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in underground coal mining.
